House Z, Dudelange (L)

This monolithic cube consists of a 30 cm-thick architectural concrete shell with board formwork . It is based on a quadratic ground plan with a grid pattern of 4.30 m which splits the square into nine sections. The grid pattern creates a clear ground plan structure and defines room size and proportion. On its street side the cube makes an enclosed, private impression. A 4.30 m x 4.30 m section sliced out of the garden side of the building creates a sheltered, roofed exterior area. Large-scale glazing offers pleasant views of the Johannisberg.
