Radar Tower, Luxembourg (L)

The concept of the design is to give a purely technical building a sense of architectural quality. The architectural concrete used delivers both the required level of structural rigidity and an attractive look with excellent surface quality. Between the two massive cubes which top and tail it the tower takes the form of a simple shear wall construction. Two of these shear walls extend three meters out of the otherwise quadratic ground plan, and clearly orientate the tower towards the airfield. The third shear wall forms its back and serves to reinforce the entire structure.
