Combined Heat & Power Unit (CHP), Office Building, Luxembourg-Kirchberg (L)

The CHP consists of four production units (each featuring two motors and a boiler) which are clearly defined by the four “blocks” which make up the building construction. The large fifth “block” houses the unit’s large heat accumulator tanks. Narrow gaps between the “blocks” allow daylight to pass into the basement level and allow passers-by to look into the building from street level. The adjacent office building is conceived as a low-energy construction and accommodates offices facing onto the street and yard area. The central area of the building features vertical access routes and sanitary facilities, and is provided with daylight via a roof-level lighting slit.
