Homeless accommodation, Esch/Alzette (L)

The building stands at the south-east entry to the town of Esch/Alzette, and presents itself as a puristic volume expressed in a clear architectural language. Its inconspicuous entrance is located on the old access road to the ARBED industrial site. The building comprises five floors housing a reception and lounge area, offices, twelve single rooms and four double rooms.

The façade consists of a dual-layer wall construction, with reinforced concrete used for inner walls and dark-red exposed masonry for outer walls. The colour of the masonry is similar to that of the red, iron-rich earth which has long characterized the region’s architecture. All façade apertures and projections are framed in prefabricated architectural concrete components.
