Children’s day-care centre, Trier-Filsch(D)

The building is defined by two thick, L-shaped slate walls. The glass façades which interpose them represent points of transition between interior and exterior space. The roof slab appears to simply rest on the thick walls and float above the rest of the building. The restriction of the structure to a single storey ensures the optimum incorporation of required functional elements. Our “cluster” design positions all required functions around each group room (utility room, washroom, storage room, cloakroom). The centre of the building features an amply proportioned play corridor with a wider entrance area which opens onto the kids’ café.
