New construction of the Stefan Andres Grammar School, Schweich (D), mention
In order to give structure to the otherwise vague local planning situation, we designed an elongated building ensemble stretching along the Stefan-Andres-Straße. This strategy not only delineates the roadside environment, but also clearly defines the school site. A schoolyard comprising various different zones also takes shape. The layout of the building ensemble reacts to the fragmented nature of the surrounding development, and the functions of “school” and “canteen with centre for cross-generational contact and communication” are structurally separate. The relative position of the two buildings ensures that the points of entry to all parts of the complex – including inventory buildings – are clear.
