New construction of the Kleist Museum, Frankfurt-Oder (D)

We designed a simple cube which stands confidently next to the existing building, but maintains a presence which is low-key enough to not enter into competition with its neighbour. The structure of the cube adopts some elements of the existing building. The height of its parapet matches the overall height of the existing building, and is comparable with the height of other buildings in the surrounding area. As the new building is located to the rear of the existing building, we developed a highly introverted building which focuses on its function as an exhibition space. Its interior features a variety of room sizes, and each room is characterized by its own lighting characteristics.
