Urban development “Schmelz“, Dudelange (L)
When viewed from a wider geographical perspective, Dudelange has a highly important function as one of the centres of the southern area of Luxemburg. This is primarily due to the development of the steel industry during the 20th century. On the one hand, the collapse of the steel industry threatens to rob the town of its central function, whilst on the other it presents a number of new opportunities to develop and strengthen this function within the framework of an overall urban planning concept. Our concept sees the development of a highly condensed mixed-use neighbourhood with an emphasis on residential usages. It is traversed by a “green strip” which provides an opportunity for the renaturation of the Dudelange stream.
