Archives of the department of Gard, House of Cultural Heritage, Nimes (F), 2nd prize

The complex consists of four parallel buildings of identical height and length. The main building stands on rue du Forez and is deeper than the other buildings. In addition to the main visitor entrance shared by the archives and the House of Cultural Heritage, it also houses all publicly accessible areas such as the reading room, library and auditorium. Its layout is more open than that of the other buildings, and allows light to flood into its interior. Each of the three blocks housing the archives of the department of Gard features a logistics zone on its bottom floor. The three upper floors house the archives themselves, which are organized in a way that ensures a rapid, fit-for-purpose flow of documents.
